The care of the centuries-old chestnut groves is combined with the studies of the herbal tradition: the famous “bread tree” not only gives us tasty, satiating and nutritionally rich fruits, but also the beautiful leaves which, in addition to adorning the majestic foliage of the chestnut trees , have multiple health properties. Chestnut leaves are rich in active ingredients: tannins (astringent action), gums and resins (antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic action) and mineral salts, in particular phosphorus and magnesium (strengthening action).
The period of maximum production of these substances, that is the balsamic period, is just before flowering, in early-mid-May. The collection of the leaves was carried out exclusively by hand on different chestnuts in order not to deduce the foliage and in the specific period to fully exploit their properties. To underline the complete naturalness of the chestnut trees which are absolutely not treated with pesticides or chemical herbicides.
